Gillian, the eldest, is a sensation in the art world-- this world, that is. In her other world she's the Assassin, a knockout who snuffs out dimension-jumpers who foul up her personal space. She never expected to join forces with one. But when a plague of murderous demons plunges the earth in darkness, she has no choice but to get a little help from a being who knows his stuff.

Any Given Doomsday (The Phoenix Chronicles, Book 1)
by Lori Handeland (Mass Market Paperback - Nov 4, 2008)
Darkness will summon her…
Elizabeth Phoenix once used her unique skills as a psychic to help in the Milwaukee Police Department's fight against injustice. But when Liz's foster mother is found viciously murdered—and Liz is discovered unconscious at the scene—her only memory of the crime comes in the form of terrifying dreams...of creatures more horrific than anything Liz has seen in real life. What do these visions mean? And what in the world do they have to do with her former lover, Jimmy Sanducci?
To places she's never been before…
While the police question Jimmy in the murder, Jimmy opens Liz's eyes to a supernatural war that has raged since the dawn of time in which innocent people are hunted by malevolent beings disguised as humans. Only a chosen few have the ability to fight their evil, and Jimmy believes Liz is among them. Now, with her senses heightened, new feelings are rising within Liz—ones that re-ignite her dangerous attraction to Jimmy. But Jimmy has a secret that will rock Liz to her core…and put the survival of the human race in peril.…

To avenge his sister, Stryker prepares to annihilate the Dark-Hunters. But things go awry when his oldest enemy returns. Enter his ex-wife. Zephyra. Just when he thought nothing could stop him, he’s now embroiled in a centuries old war with a shrew who gives new meaning to pain.

Moving Madness
I've been trying to look for a job. It's been seven years since my last job and filling out applications has been an interesting process. :) I squeeze in some leisure reading through out the week. It's whatever book is close to me at the moment. I have the Charmed anthology in one room, Must Love Black by Kelly McClymer in another room and Up in Smoke by Katie MacAlister in another. I miss the blog chatting. Once things settle down, my blogs won't be so sporadic.
Its a big holiday tomorrow for all of us paranormal lovers. I hope everyone has a

Mac (from The Crossing) - tall, blond, with amazing life energy and never-failing optimism. Mac will go to hell and back for the woman he loves
Kalen (from The Awakening) - broad and dark, brooding, with a terrible sin in his past (note: refer to Charlotte Bronte above). Kalen needs a woman strong enough to make him face his demons.

Fantastic Fives on KyAnn Waters
Update: Ashlyn Chase, you won your choice of one of KyAnn's ebooks from her backlist. Check here for KyAnn's books and the email KyAnn your choice.Congratulations!
Five words and/or phrases that describe you:
Wife/mother.
Organized chaos.
Tenacious
Happy
and Tired
Five people and/or things that inspire you:
Music
Memories
Reality television – I know, it’s shameful. I’m a junkie.
Silence
I can’t say there is any one person that inspires me. I think about men in history and I’m in awe of what they endured and accomplished. One of my favorite historical figures is John Paul Jones. He led a tarnished life in England but went on to become the “Father of the American Navy.”
Five of your favorite authors:
For me that’s like asking my five favorite foods. I love to read, but tend to avoid the genre I’m currently working on. Five off the top I’d say…
Susan Johnson
Clive Barker
James Patterson
Sean Michael
Kate Douglas
Describe five of your heroes/ heroines through your eyes:
Kean Phelan from All Lycan’s Eve shoulders the responsibility for his pack. As alpha male he is their leader. In a chance meeting, he finds his mate and must protect her from the pack. He never wavers in his duties. He manages to convince Callie of their destiny and also stand in judgment of his pack to claim her. He is all the best qualities of a complex hero—Strength, love, honor, duty. If you love a bit of violence and a lot of sex in your werewolf stories, this is the one for you. All Lycan’s Eve – Ellora’s Cave
Tessa, in With or Without You, made a decision in her youth that has now come back to unravel her life. She messed up, but she’s strong-willed, decisive, and has to learn to forgive herself. With or Without You – Samhain Publishing
Taylor Davis is a great heroine. She’s intelligent and a bit arrogant without being a jerk. She’s known as the Bitch of the Beau Monde because ultimately she controls everything in her life. Putting her into a BDSM relationship where she is the submissive was a real exploration into what it would be like for a powerful, dominate business woman to give up control in the bedroom. The Cougar Meets Her Master – The Wilder Roses
Trace Tilton grew up in a small town fearing what his father would do if he discovered his sexual preference. He moved away from home after his mother’s death. It takes a family emergency to draw him back. He’s prideful, yet considerate, sophisticated, and sexy as hell. In Hard Ride Home, Trace has to choose—leave home again or stay in a small town and claim the man he wants. Hard Ride Home – Ellora’s Cave
Nash Stokes is the ranch foreman of the Triple T. He’s the second hero in Hard Ride Home. Rural Montana is the ideal place for a man to live a simple life. And the perfect place to keep his sexual preferences a secret—until Trace disrupts his idyllic life. He’s loyal, hard working, and stubborn as hell. Hard Ride Home – Ellora’s Cave
Five reasons to read your books:
Hopefully, I’ve written books that entertain you. In the moments when you’re reading one of my stories, whether paranormal or contemporary, the unbelievable becomes believable.
I’ve try to write stories with unique twists on those hot alpha males, decadent vamps, and feisty heroines in contemporary romance.
My stories tend to have that campy dialog and situation that will hopefully at least bring a smile to your face if not make you laugh out loud.
Of course, if you love hot sex scenes you’ll enjoy my books.
And finally I like a fast read and I think that’s reflected in the way I write. So if you like that too, I think you’d enjoy one of my books.

Fantastic Fives on Marta Acosta
Irreverent,
idiosyncratic,
irrepressible,
irrational
and ironical.
Five people and or things that inspire you:Inspiration is different than support and love, which I get from my wonderful husband and family. So, people and or things that inspire me are:
1. Libraries. During my childhood, I was a feral inhabitant of the local library, searching for sustenance and amusement, and usually finding it. A little curiosity and you can find out all sorts of things that your parents and other adults don’t tell you!
2. Authors whose books stand the test of time. The classics are not just read because of the authors’ great craft, but because they touch us on a deep emotional level.
3. My son. I saw the world and myself in a new way once I had the responsibility of being a parent.
4. All the funny people, the ones who make you laugh and cope with life’s trials. Some of my favorite comic authors are P.G. Wodehouse, Mark Twain, Jane Austen, and John Kennedy Toole. But I’m also a fan of comedy from Mel Brooks to Judd Apatow’s series to the throw-away lines in “Buffy, the Vampire Slayer” to Kathy Griffin’s stand-up. I love old romantic comedies like “The Philadelphia Story” and “The Thin Man” movies, and I love the newer ones, too, like “Bridget Jones’s Diary” and “The Holiday.”
5. My teachers, who introduced me to literature and to ways of thinking about the world through literature.
Five of your favorite authors:
I always list the same top authors, so I’m going to name some of my favorite novels by other authors.
The Eyre Affair by Jasper Fforde is a booklover’s dream filled with lit references, bonkers humor, and a crazy parallel universe where art rules.
Aunt Julia and the Script Writer by Mario Vargas Llosa is a wild comedy full of eccentric characters and romance. In this beautifully written page-turner, the characters and the situations get progressively more out-of-control, and I read non-stop to the end.
Good Omens by Neil Gaiman and Terry Prachett is a devilishly fun story of good vs. evil. The Antichrist is born to a nice suburban couple and a book-loving angel must stop Armageddon.
Middlemarch by George Elliot is a substantial book and well worth the effort. Dorothea Brooke is a bright young woman who wants to do something useful with her life. She makes the mistake of marrying an older man because she thinks she can help him with his “important work.” This is a complex and completely engrossing tale where the small personal issues of love intersect with large social issues.
Men in Black by Scott Spencer. Every book by Spencer is terrific, but this darkly comic tale of a writer’s life falling apart is my favorite. Spencer’s hapless protagonist makes terrible mistakes, but it’s still easy to empathize with him, especially as he struggles to connect with his son.
Describe five of your heroes/heroines through your eyes:
I don’t write heroes or heroines because I don’t find perfect people very interesting. I always suspect that they lack the imagination to screw-up. So I’ll describe my favorite flawed characters instead.
Milagro de Los Santos is a smart, funny, often impulsive young woman with a degree from Fancy University (F.U.). She writes political horror stories that no one wants to read and yearns to be a “sincere and serious” person, despite the fact that she loves silliness. She falls in with a family of snobby vampires and finds the home she’s always wanted.
Oswald Grant is the “fabulous man” who introduces Milagro to his family. She thinks she’s fallen for yet another quirky slacker, but Oswald’s actually a plastic surgeon. He plays along with her misunderstanding for fun. He’s warm, affectionate, accomplished, but he has to work all the time to succeed. And he’s constantly stressed by his sense of duty toward Milagro and his family.
Edna Grant is the snarky, sharp-edged grandmother of the vampire clan. She always has a clever insult and men worship her. Despite her stand-offish exterior, she warms up to Milagro and becomes a strong maternal figure for her.
Ian Ducharme tells Milagro that he’s nicknamed “the Dark Lord” because his family owns some dank and boggy property in Europe. He’s not the handsomest of men, but he’s the most commanding in any room. He’s a little too smooth to be trusted, but he’s very seductive, exciting and has a sense of humor.
Nancy Carrington-Chambers is Milagro’s best friend from F.U. She answers to Milagro’s silly side and makes an art of mangling the English language. Nancy’s full of style and fashion opinions and she’s great fun, even while struggling a little to be a good wife to her boring husband.
Five reasons to read your books:Well, I’ll give you some reasons from other sources.
“An addictive combo plate of romance and vamp satire.” Publishers Weekly
“Acosta’s talent is staggering. In each of her Milagro de Los Santos novels, she shows readers all over again just how funny, ridiculous and thoroughly gifted she is at plotting.” Romantic Times
“Impeccable timing and rare wit…a glorious madcap mystery of a ride.” Futures Mystery Anthology Magazine
“Intelligence and fabulousity mixed into one delicious cocktail.” Marcela Landres
“In my opinion The Bride of Casa Dracula is the best book of the series. It combines the language and the Jane Austen-ish romantic comedy of manners style of Happy Hour at Casa Dracula with the faster romance mystery pacing of Midnight Brunch and effortlessly comes out on top. The comedy is laugh-out-loud funny in places as Milagro continues her personal journey to be ‘serious and sincere’ which is at such odds with her silly nature.” Love Vampires

Books To Look Out For
Razor Girl (SHOMI) by Marianne Mancusi
THE WORLD HAS ENDED, MOLLY.
WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO DO NOW?
Molly Anderson is not your average twenty-one-year-old. It's been six years since she and her family escaped into a bunker, led by her conspiracy theorist father and his foreknowledge of a plot to bring about the apocalypse. But her father's precautions didn't stop there. Molly is now built to survive.
Yes, Ian Anderson's favorite book gave him ideas on how to "improve" his daughter. Molly is faster, stronger, and her ocular implants and razor-tipped nails set her apart. Apart, when--venturing alone out of the bunker and into a plague ravaged, monster-ridden wilderness--what Molly needs most is togetherness. Chase Griffin, a friend from her past, is her best bet. But while he and others have miraculously survived, the kind boy has become a tormented man. Together, these remnants of humanity must struggle toward trusting each other and journey to the one place Molly's father believed all civilization would be reborn: The Magic Kingdom, where everyone knows it's a small world after all.

Five people and or things that inspire you:
The four seasons, but especially fall and all the lovely colors and smells. It’s my favorite time of year!
Other books/movies/television shows, etc. Anytime I read or watch something, I think about the story and characters, what I liked or didn’t about them, and what I might have done differently. It’s a great, fun way to get your own creative juices flowing.
My mom. She’s the strongest person I know. I love making her laugh, and I try to bring that humor to my books to make other folks laugh too.
Food. I’m addicted to the Food Network, and I love writing about food. I always try to make it a small but delicious part of anything I write.
The outdoors/weather. There’s nothing I love better than a gray, rainy day or overlooking a scenic vista. I always try to take pictures of every new place I go to provide inspiration for future books/settings.
Five of your favorite authors:
David Eddings
Ian Fleming
Robin McKinley
J. R. R. Tolkien
Donald Westlake
Describe five of your heroes/heroines through your eyes:
Bella Bulluci: She’s the star of my September release, Jinx. Bella’s a fashion designer by day, although she dreams of being a more traditional artist. She’s very quiet and restrained and elegant, but she can also be incredibly strong when the situation calls for it.
Debonair: He’s Bella’s hero. He has something of a split personality and can be very sexy one minute and very shy the next. He’s the ultimate nice guy wrapped up in a bad-boy package.
Gin Blanco: She’s the heroine of a new urban fantasy series I’m working on. The first book is titled Gin on the Rocks. Gin’s an assassin who runs a barbecue restaurant called the Pork Pit. She’s one tough cookie. She’s probably the strongest character (both physically and emotionally) that I’ve ever written. It took me a long time to get her voice just right, but now, she’s one of my favorite characters.
Carmen Cole: Carmen was the star of my first book, Karma Girl, and she’ll always hold a special place in my heart. She’s always plucky and determined no matter the odds against her. She makes mistakes, but she always owns up to them and tries to do better.
Fiona Fine: Fiona was the star of my second book, Hot Mama. Fiona is bold and daring and full of life. She was a lot of fun to write, especially since she can eat whatever she want and wears such interesting clothes!
Five reasons to read your books:
They’re fun, sexy fantasies.
No wimpy heroines are allowed.
Having superpowers would be cool.
The male superheroes fill out their leather and spandex costumes very nicely.
They’re a lighthearted escape from the everyday world.

Jinx
by Jennifer Estep (Sept. 2, 2008)
She never wanted to be a superhero. Too much danger. Too much spandex …
Bella Bulluci’s big passion is the arts. Her big pain is being born into a family of superheroes. Of course, Bella might feel differently if her own superpower was one she could control – or at least get some use out of. Instead, her power is one of capricious luck – supercharged telekinesis. In other words, static electricity. Bella knows that’s not a power – just a jinx.
During a gala fundraiser for the local art museum, Bella comes upon two things no Bigtime supergirl should be without: an ubervillain of her very own who plans to steal a priceless gem; and a dashing – if slightly shady – stranger named Debonair. He may have a reputation as a notorious playboy, but the real sparks are going to come from Bella, who’s finally going to learn just how well love and danger can go together …

You Could Be a Vampire... If You Had To |
Like most people, the thought of being a vampire has crossed your mind. But you're not sure if you'd do it, even if you could. Living forever doesn't sound half bad, if you could live forever with the people you love the most. But do vampires even love? And would the vampire version of you even be you? It's all too much to contemplate. Luckily, the chances of you ever becoming a vampire are astronomically low. What you would like best about being a vampire: Living forever What you would like least about being a vampire: Blood stained teeth |

Fantastic Fives on Chris Howard
Always writing
Daydreaming
Quiet
Creative
and finally,
someone who can't live too far from the ocean.
That's definitely everything about me in five words or phrases.
Five people and or things that inspire you:
1. My mother, who wrote and painted and filled our family with creativity, spontaneity, and instilled in us a boldness and eagerness to take the next step.
2. Art: any great story, painting, sculpture. I often get the I-should-be-writing urge halfway through reading a good book, and I either have to stop and write, or hold it off to finish reading. Sometimes it tough.
3. My own kids. Like any parent with teenage kids in today's world, you realize how different things are, how much more capable they are--in many ways--than we were growing up. I'm looking over at my teenage daughter...conference call going on the landline, texting on the cell, TV's on--one hand on the remote--and she's downloading music videos through TiVo, Stephenie Meyer's Breaking Dawn is open with at least one eye scanning the lines (easy, because she's already read it twice), earbuds in one end, jacked into an iPod on the other, and her other hand's on the keyboard keying in lyrics on her wiki page to a song she's writing with friends in the four open chat windows. Kids today...man, they're freakishly sharp and imaginative and seem to know more about the world than I did at their age.
4. The sea, the sound of the surf, the cry of gulls, the silence under the waves. Not sure I could live without that, not for long anyway. If I'm ever shipped off to another world, it needs to be an ocean world.
5. Last, I'd say myself. Art, and maybe any creative endeavor, has a reciprocal or circular inspirational effect on the creator. I re-read chapters when I write not just to get back into a particular storyline's groove, but also to feel good about writing and completing them, and I use that as fuel for more chapters. My painting works the same way.
Five of your favorite authors:
I have a lot more than five, but I can list five of them in no real order:
Neil Gaiman
Caitlín R. Kiernan
Lois McMaster
Bujold Richard
Morgan Dostoevsky
Describe five of your heroes/heroines through your eyes:
There are a couple ways to take this one, including real or imagined heroes who have had some influence on my life, or the heroes/heroines who appear as characters I've developed in my books and stories. I'm going with the latter:
Kassandra is--by far--my all time favorite character. She's fierce, thoughtful, not always sympathetic, has way too many problems for one person to deal with, but manages to get through every day with them--while fending off small armies of assassins and planning the downfall of her murdering grandfather.
Corina Lairsey - She's tough, witty, and having experienced more than a few bad relationships first hand, might just be equipped to handle something a little deeper and more controlling.
Michael Henderson - the observant outsider with a science background, a former science teacher, marine biologist, who welcomed the Seaborn curse, and now lives under the sea.
Kallixene - Kassandra's paternal grandmother has orchestrated the rise of an exiled Seaborn Great House, and had hand in Kassandra's development and rise to power.
Nicole Garcia - One of Kassandra's two sisters, the one with high grades, artistic ability, and political ambitions.
Five reasons to read your books:
If you like the sea,
strong characters,
interesting uses of magic,
battles at four hundred fathoms,
and last,
I think fantasy readers looking for something unique will find Seaborn
Cheers!
