I was on Annie's blog and she was talking about how a dream inspired her for a book she is writing and I felt inspired to write a short poem about dreams.

By Danette B

I dream in color,

I dream of love,

I dream of laughter,

I dream of hope,

I dream of things I should not want,

I sometimes dream of those I've lost,

In dreams I want to reach the sky,

In dreams I need to be the one,

In dreams I see a future there isn't,

My dreams are a wondrous place I like to visit.

Fantastic Fives on Anna Campbell

Hi Danette! Thanks for asking me to be a guest on your blog. I love the questions, especially the one about heroes and heroines. All my stories start with the characters, so that really struck a chord with me.

Five phrases or words that describe you:

Noisy (unfortunately!),
voracious reader,
humorous (I won't say funny - that might be pushing my luck),

Five people and/or things that inspire you:

my critique partner Annie West,
John Donne,
North and South (just watched it - fantastic!),
my father

Five of your favorite authors:

Loretta Chase,
Laura Kinsale,
Dorothy Dunnett,
Anne Stuart,
Jane Austen

Describe five of your heroes/heroines of your books in your eyes:

Justin Kinmurrie, the Duke of Kylemore, hero of CLAIMING THE COURTESAN - dark, sensual, passionate, sexy, haughty, smart, determined, tormented, desperately in love. Tall, dark, lean and very handsome with vivid blue eyes and a beak of a nose (I have a soft spot for big noses!).

Verity Ashton/Soraya, heroine of CLAIMING THE COURTESAN - a reluctant courtesan who is tormented, tragic, divided, loving, self-sacrificing, courageous, desperately in love against her deepest instincts. Beautiful enough to stop traffic. Looks like Olivia Hussey in the Zeffirelli version of ROMEO AND JULIET.

Matthew Lansdowne, Marquess of Sheene, hero of UNTOUCHED - brave, frighteningly intelligent, complex, strong through trials that would break most men, self-deprecating, heroic, principled, desperately in love (hmm, am I picking up a thread here?). Tall and lean with unusual golden eyes that express his deepest feelings.

Grace Paget, heroine of UNTOUCHED - beautiful, headstrong but able to learn from her mistakes, loyal, courageous, victim of circumstance, defiant, determined, empathetic, desperately in love, doesn't trust happy endings.
Small, slender, dark-haired with an aristocratic air that seems at odds with her poverty.

Olivia Raines, heroine of the as yet untitled third book for Avon - London's most notorious courtesan who finds herself against her will desperately (yeah, we know what's coming) in love with her latest lover, the infamous Earl of Erith. Clever, cynical, witty, sophisticated, beautiful, sexually adept, unconventional.

Five reasons to read your books:

They're dark and sensual.
They're different.
They're full of emotion and passion.
You'll get to meet some really interesting characters.
If you read my books, you'll make Avon and Anna Campbell happy ;-)

Claiming The Courtesean

He would marry her, and possess her in every way possible.

The Duke of Kylemore knows her as Soraya, London’s most celebrated courtesan. Men fight duels to spend an hour in her company. And only he comes close to taming her. Flying in the face of society, he decides to make her his bride; then, she vanishes, seemingly into thin air.
Dire circumstances have forced Verity Ashton to barter her innocence and change her name for the sake of her family. But Kylemore destroys her plans for a respectable life when he discovers her safe haven. He kidnaps her, sweeping her away to his isolated hunting lodge in Scotland, where he vows to bend her to his will.

There he seduces her anew. Verity spends night after night in his bed… and though she still plans her escape, she knows she can never flee the unexpected, unwelcome love for the proud, powerful lover who claims her both body and soul.

This was my first dark historical and it took me a little longer than usual to read. I ended up getting caught up in the story.Anna has strong characters that you will find easy to feel their emotions. It was a dark book because yes there was rape in it,but I felt the Duke wasn't doing it for the force of it,he did it for the passion he had for Verity.I know that sounds kind of off but once you learn these two charaters background and how hard their lives were, your sitting there rooting for these two to get over their hardships and be together. I enjoyed reading this book and look forward to reading more from Anna.

Camera Flaws

We went bowling for my eldest's birthday Friday night. I was going back and forth so much that I didn't even take pictures of anyone bowling. When we were doing the cake,I finally grabbed my camera and it wouldn't turn on,I thought the batteries were dead evnthough I swore I charged them them the night before.I had to have one of our friends take some pictures for me. While I was putting away my camera later I saw that the memory card door was open and hey that was the reason my camera wasn't turning on. Sometimes I have one of those doh! moments and I feel like such a dork.

Fantastic Fives on Rene Lyons

Five phrases or words that describe you:

Five people and/or things that inspire you:

I have to group my family in as one. They inspire me more than anything else.
William Wallace.
Elizabeth I.
Stephen King (who I have a huge crush on).
The book Pillars of the Earth.

Five of your favorite authors:
This is way too easy. I have very few favorites, so the list is extremely short.

Lynn Kurland.
Karen Marie Moning.
Julie Garwood.
Teresa Medeiros.
Sherrilyn Kenyon.

Describe five of your heroes/heroines of your books in you eyes :

Sebastian of Rydon: He's known as Sage. He's the common sense of the Templar Vampires. The one who thinks before he leaps. He left his home to go halfway across the world in search of glory and honor. What he'd found was blood and death.
Constantine Draegon: Known as Dragon, he's more than lived up the moniker. He's survived a brutal childhood that's left him scarred both physically and emotionally. Basically, this isn't someone you want to piss off.
Lucian of Penwick: As Knight, he's all that's noble and proud. He carries the burden of guilt over his family's fate. The most devout of all the Templar Vampires, he was the last one to lose his faith and the first one to face the archangel Michael when they were damned.
Raphael de Vere: If given the choice, Rogue would rather spend his nights in the warm arms of a woman than with the cold steel of a sword in his grip. Suffering the loss of his betrothed, he went off to the holy Land in search of peace. Although easygoing, put him on the battlefield and he's every bit as brutal as the rest of the Templar Vampires.
Tristan Beaumont: He was chosen as Guardian for a reason. His sense of responsibility runs deep. He's a natural leader, seemingly born to stand at the head of army and take them to victory. With the walls of his home closing in on him, he went off to win glory on Crusade. He returned home with the stain of sin and damnation, yet also with the determination to save not only his soul - but those of the other Templar Vampires as well.

Five reasons to read your books:

Sebastian of Rydon.
Constantine Draegon.
Lucian of Penwick.
Raphael de Vere.
Tristan Beaumont.

Thank you so much! That was so much fun. :)

What Tarot Card Are You?

You are The Moon

Hope, expectation, Bright promises.

The Moon is a card of magic and mystery - when prominent you know that nothing is as it seems, particularly when it concerns relationships. All logic is thrown out the window.

The Moon is all about visions and illusions, madness, genius and poetry. This is a card that has to do with sleep, and so with both dreams and nightmares. It is a scary card in that it warns that there might be hidden enemies, tricks and falsehoods. But it should also be remembered that this is a card of great creativity, of powerful magic, primal feelings and intuition. You may be going through a time of emotional and mental trial; if you have any past mental problems, you must be vigilant in taking your medication but avoid drugs or alcohol, as abuse of either will cause them irreparable damage. This time however, can also result in great creativity, psychic powers, visions and insight. You can and should trust your intuition.

Love at Stake Series Author Coming Tomorrow

Tomorrow I have a Fantastic Five with author Kerrelyn Sparks. She has a vampire comedy series that has me up all night laughing, unable to put down until the books are finished. Her newest release is....
Be Still My Vampire Heart
If it was still beating. Angus MacKay has been undead for almost five hundred years and it's not often something, or someone, surprises him. Until Emma Wallace. The sight of this luscious agent from the CIA's elite Stake-Out team was enough to stop Angus in his tracks. But then he discovers that she's a vampire slayer, intent on killing the "monsters" who killed her parents. And it's Angus's job to stop her.

The only good vampire is a dead vampire. It's been Emma's motto since she committed her life to the destruction of these things. Now Angus MacKay wants to convince her differently.

Sure, he's a sexy Highland warrior who seems to have stepped off the cover of a romance novel, complete with brogue, kilt, and sword, but he's also one of them. And it's her job to kill him.

The war is on, but will it end in the destruction of one or both of them . . . or in total surrender to a passion for the ages?

This book is about a unlikely couple, a vampire warrior and a vampire slayer. I laughed when Angus was given Romans new fusion cuisine Blissky and my heart was torn at how Emma names her stakes Mom and Dad, each one made to avenge their deaths. You'll enjoy watching these two find their love for each other.
My favorite part was when Emma says to herself Why couldn't she find a live man this charming and attractive? Apparently the good men were married....or dead.

A Weekend Full of Pain

I just found out a toothache could be a pain in your mouth and a pain in your pocketbook.First off, I dislike going the dentist or doctor for any reason.I hate needles, they give me the heebiegeebs(Its bad when I'm using words that usually don't come out of my mouth)but this weekend I was in pain,I had to eat very carefully.I couldn't even enjoy my meals,I kept thinking about how much it hurt to eat that I couldn't taste my food. ( I even had some chocolate and wasn't able to enjoy it :( )I finally went into the dentist office this morning to have them see what going on and they tell me I need a root canal and its going to cost me some dollars that I don't have at the moment(family budget doesn't leave room for much) so the dentist sends me off with some pain medicine and I got to go next week to get a needle stuck in my mouth. Does anyone know of any spiritual ritual that will make my tooth better?

1. Cheerful
2. Tolerant
3. Driven
4. Kind
5. Animal lover!

Five people and/or things that inspire you:

1. Anyone who pursues their dream
2. People who stand up for the oppressed
3. My husband and his family
4. My family and my friends
5. A riveting book or movie

Five of your favorite authors:

Oh, this is tough. I admire and enjoy the stories of many different authors.
Yikes. Okay. I’ll name the five who I have most recently read.

1. Nora Roberts
2. Sandra Brown
3. Robert B. Parker
4. Stuart Woods
5. Lara Adrian

Describe five of your heroes/heroines of your books in your eyes :

All of my heroes and heroines possess some or several qualities that I admire. I’d be flattered to call any of my heroines ‘friend’ and if any of my heroes crossed my path in real life, I’d swoon or drool or something equally embarrassing. Hard to highlight just five, but here goes…

1. Afia St. John – my heroine in JINXED. I love her because she is
tolerant and kind and terribly insecure. This pampered-rich-girl runs deep.
2. Lulu Ross – my heroine in CHARMED. She’s an optimistic free-spirit
who believes the best in the worst of people.
3. Joe Bogart – my hero in SEDUCED. Tortured hero with a capital ‘T’.
Strong and caring. S-e-x-y.
4. Arch Duvall – my hero in ALL ABOUT EVIE. A badboy trying to do the
right thing. Scottish accent, hypnotic eyes, killer body. Need I say more?
5. Evie Parish – my heroine in ALL ABOUT EVIE. Imagine not being able to
do what you feel you were born to do. Imagine losing work and your husband to younger women. Imagine a goody-two-shoes performer rediscovering passion—personally and professionally—with a reformed con-artist. Evie may be insecure and a tad cynical, but she’s a survivor.

Five reasons to read your books:

1. Strong, sexy heroes
2. Complex, sympathetic heroines
3. Quirky, but lovable secondary characters
4. Lots of humor and a little suspense
5. Because my stories will fill you with hope and joy

Fantastic Fives on C.E.Murphy

This week has been full of authors who are dear to me,today is no exception, she is the author who introduced me to urban fantasy....
Fantastic Fives on C.E.Murphy

Five phrases or words that describe you:

Also, "real effin' ray of sunshine," meant in all sincerity, if we're going for entire phrases.
I'm a pretty cheerful person. :)

Five people and/or things that inspire you:

All sorts of things inspire me!

Harry Bernstein, who sold his first book at age 93 (and a *sequel* for it, which is crazy-good optimism, if you ask me!), inspires me.
Going for walks in the Irish countryside inspires me.
Jada Pinkett Smith in the Matrix movies inspires me (to go to the gym, because OMG, teh hot boday!).
The need to, as a fellow author I know says, "get the stories out of my head before I die" inspires me.
And lastly, deadlines are very, very inspiring, which means I must finish up this interview and get back to work!

Five of your favorite authors:

Oh, jeez. This is like asking people to pick their favorite child. :)
Guy Gavriel Kay.
C.S. Friedman (who is apparently writing under Celia Friedman these days).
Brian Michael Bendis, who writes for Marvel Comics, is up there in the favorites right now. Susan Cooper.
L.M. Montgomery.

Describe five of your heroes/heroines of your books in you eyes (or Five facts you would like readers to know about your Hero and Heroine):

Joanne Walker
: reluctant shaman and heroine of the Walker Papers, Joanne's of Cherokee and Irish heritage and thoroughly grounded in the real world. When the mystical comes knocking, she's completely out of her league--but I think she's finding her stride. I love to write Jo, because in a lot of ways she sounds like me, which makes her easy to write...except I think she's funnier than I am, and I don't get how that happens. :)
Captain Michael Morrison: Jo's boss and her foil, Morrison likes her shamanic abilities even less than Jo herself does...but when the weird keeps coming around, he's too good a cop to deny her talents and keep her off a case. I adore Morrison. I think he's dead sexy. So does Jo, but she'd rather bite her tongue off than admit that. :)
Gary Muldoon: a 73 year old cab driver who fell into Joanne's life in the first pages of URBAN SHAMAN, Gary's become her rock. Not only willing to accept that the world is a stranger place than he imagines, Gary actively enjoys that it is--which makes him Joanne's polar opposite, and very much someone she needs around. I've gotten so many emails (including ones from my editor!) hoping that Gary and Jo might get together, and I'm like, "But he's SEVENTY-THREE!" *laughs* And now for some upcoming heroines!
Margrit Knight: Margrit Knight is a young New York City lawyer who's finally met the perfect man. Unfortunately, he's a gargoyle, and wanted for murder... Margrit's the heroine of my new urban fantasy trilogy that'll be out over the course of 2007-2008. The first book, HEART OF STONE, is due out in November, and I'm really looking forward to seeing those on the shelves. They're sexier than the Walker Papers, and Margrit's a much more focused, together person than Jo. (I bet they wouldn't get along at all!)
Belinda Primrose: Belinda Primrose, bastard daughter of a powerful queen, is trained as a spy and an assassin. Then she awakens to sorcerous powers, a gift from the father she believes to be only human. They will help her--and condemn her--as she navigates a rocky path of seduction and betrayal through a time of political and religious upheaval.Belinda's the heroine of a new epic series starting in June (I think!) 2008. The first book is THE QUEEN'S BASTARD, I'm excited about this series because it's completely different from anything I've ever written. Lots of sex, lots of murder, lots of can you go wrong? :)

Five reasons to read your books:

They're in turns exciting,
and nerve-wracking (I said, with all due modesty)!
Also, I asked very nicely. O.O :)

Coyote Dreams by C.E.Murphy

Coyote Dreams

By C.E.Murphy

Much of the city can't wake up. And more are dozing off each day.
Instead of powerful forces storming Seattle, a more insidious invasion is happening. Most of Joanne Walker's fellow cops are down with the blue flu—or rather the blue sleep. Yet there's no physical cause anyone can point to—and it keeps spreading.

It has to be magical, Joanne figures. But what's up with the crazy dreams that hit her every time she closes her eyes? Are they being sent by Coyote, her still-missing spirit guide? The messages just aren't clear.

Somehow Joanne has to wake up her sleeping friends while protecting those still awake, figure out her inner-spirit dream life and, yeah, come to terms with these other dreams she's having about her boss….

Six Foot Hero

By Shea McMaster

Loyalty has always been a huge part of Nicole Dahl’s life. A chance vacation meeting begins an emotional journey forcing her to question everything she has blindly accepted since the death of her parents two years earlier. Betrayed by her mentor, her own loyalty and feelings of gratitude are put to the test. With nowhere else to turn, she finds herself fleeing from the comfort of her safe world in San Francisco, to the wilderness of Alaska and into the arms of her Six Foot Hero.

No matter how strong a woman is, sometimes she’s hungry for a hero. Make mine six feet tall, with black hair and deep blue eyes, please. And I’ll take him to go

Logan Schafer, disillusioned and jaded by a love affair gone terribly awry, finds himself beguiled by emerald eyes and entertaining a visitor for a friend. From the moment Logan sees Nicole, he wants her, but she’s made it perfectly clear – hands off. However, bottled up passions can only be contained for so long. Once the barriers are shattered, all that remains in their way are their pasts. Nicole must find a way to sever old loyalties that bind her to an unhealthy relationship. Logan’s goal is to find a way to convince her she can trust him while shedding his own ghost and helping Nicole break free of her mentor who has crossed a line.

Damsel Under Stress

By Shanna Swendson

To-do: Stop the bad guys. Rescue the wizard. Find the perfect outfit for New Year’s Eve.

At last, Owen Palmer, the dreamboat wizard at Magic, Spells, and Illusions, Inc., has conjured up the courage to get Katie Chandler under the mistletoe at the office holiday party. But just when it looks like Katie has found her prince, in pops her inept fairy godmother, Ethelinda, to throw a wand into the works. Ehtelinda’s timing couldn’t be worse. A plot hatched by MSI’s rogue ex-employees, Idris and his evil fairy gal pal Ari, threatens to expose the company’s secrets and the very existence of magic itself. Even worse, it could also mean the end of Katie’s happily-ever-after.

Now Katie and Owen must work side by side (but alas, not cheek to cheek) to thwart the villains’ plans. Braving black-magic-wielding sorceresses, subway-dwelling dragons, lovelorn frog princes, and even the dreaded trip to meet Owen’s parents at Christmas, Katie and her beau are in a battle to beat Idris at his own sinister game. All mischief and matters of the heart will come to a head at a big New Year’s Eve gala, when the crystal ball will drop, champagne will pour, and Katie will find herself truly spellbound.
