Fantastic Fives on MaryJanice Davidson

(I was sparkling when MJD accepted my invite to do this fantastic five interview. MJ is one of the authors who,if I met her in person,I'd be tongue-tied from being in awe. Her books ,to me, are hilarious and they always brighten my day. )

Five phrases or words that describe you:

Verbose
Sarcastic
Funny (and not just funny-looking, either, so shut up)
Obsessed with writing (but that’s worked out all right for me)
Lazy

Five people and/or things that inspire you:

J.K. Rowling
Stephen King (I love writer rags-to-riches stories, and these two were REALLY poor before they hit the big time)
Other writers’ success (I use my crushing envy as a way to get my butt back into the writing chair)
My parents (at a time when they had no money, they risked a lot and made their dream of early retirement come true)
My husband (he’s ridiculously smart and comes up with GREAT ideas for some of my books…and if I’m stumped on an outline, he often comes up with just the right way to fix it)

Five of your favorite authors:

Rowling
Stephen King (the old stuff…nothing after Delores Claiborne)
John Sandford (the Books of Prey, starring supercool cop Lucas Davenport)
Ann Rule (true crime writer; SMALL SACRIFICES is on my Top Three List Of Greatest Books Ever)
Michelle Bardsley (funny vampire stuff…”Don’t Talk Back To Your Vampire”, etc.

Describe five of your heroes/heroines of your books through your eyes:

Betsy the Vampire Queen: vacuous, shoe-obsessed, not the sharpest knife in the drawer, but dependable in a pinch and, probably most important, a loyal friend
Fred the Mermaid: grumpy, lonely, allergic to shellfish, lousy swimmer (with legs)
King Alexander of Alaska: loud, profane, a great dad, a terrific monarch (when he can be cornered like a rat and forced to read legislation)
Sinclair the Vampire King: tall, sexy, madly in love with Betsy (and terrified by it), formidable
Ireland (in the upcoming anthology NO REST FOR THE WITCHES): easily distracted, friendly (she has opened her home to a vampire, a fairy, a werewolf, a possessed car, and a zombie), more powerful than she knows

Five reasons to read your books:

If you want a good laugh
If you want a quick read
If you want to help send my children to college
If you want to try something that will take your mind off the state of the world
If you like funny supernatural stories

I can't wait to read your new Royals book, MaryJanice. I still feel if it wasn't for your Ebook "Escape the Slush Pile" I wouldn't be a published author, my first two books being Epublished this September. Even though I emailed you and thanked you a few months ago and Jessica said you would scold me for saying I owed it all to you, I still feel you helped get me where I am today.

Congrats Danette on your 100th post today.

I have to admit that I haven't read any of MJ's books yet,and I'm thinking that I have really been missing out. I love a good laugh with my romance stories and enjoyed the excerpt for His Royal Mess.

It's good to see others who share my love for MJ's books and hearing that some of you might just try one after today. You might want to start off with one of MJ's novellas from either the Secret's books, Cravings(antho) or Bite(antho).
